...and put butter in my coffee. Holy shit. This is world changing.

I’ve done ice cream in a pinch, but never butter.
I like that mug.

I spent like $6-7 USD on a butter coffee in northern Washington recently. Good, but not that good.
The barista gave me some hippy bullshit on why it was healthy.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 11:55 |

Maple syrup in place of sugar. The real stuff not the corn syrup based stuff. That’s my best coffee hack.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 11:57 |

Oh, there’s a ton of hippy bullshit about butter coffee. The recipes I was looking at yesterday out of curiosity (I blame regular car reviews) said I had to use grass fed organic butter. I used Kroger store brand butter.

No thanks.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 11:59 |

Use the late season stuff, though. Don’t waste the really good, light, early season batch on that.

Hippies put grass in everything.

I usually just drink black coffee. I feel like the ice cream would be too sweet, but it would get the creaminess people usually want. With the butter, it’s less bitter and has a little bit of smokiness, almost.
I got the TC mug from my summer internship. The previous long term (~5 years) intern quit and left it behind. I got his cube and all his effects. I got three mugs from that company, but no polo.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:01 |

Probably won't do it daily. That's a lot of pointless cholesterol.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:01 |

How are you gonna make butter eat grass? It doesn't even have a mouth!
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:02 |
|
It will make you fat.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:02 |

That design makes a better mug than a polo anyway.
I used ice cream not for the flavor, but to chelate the chemicals in the coffee that make it bitter. I like good coffee, but my tongue gets overwhelmed when its black.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:02 |
|
Well butter itself isn’t bad for you unless you have too much of it.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:03 |

This is a thing? More of a survival trick when it’s a balmy -40 F ambient with 40 mph winds caressing your skin . Go figure the hippy dippy crowd self associates with it.
I’ll assure you there is nothing healthy about it unless your body is burning many thousands of calories just trying to stay warm enough it doesn’t have to shut down to protect the core. This is why people curl up and die.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:03 |

Yep. I dropped 30 lbs since May. Not doing this every day. I like my bitter coffee.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:04 |

It tastes good but you have to whisk the shit out of it otherwise you end up with a slick of melted butter on top of your coffee and not evenly mixed in.
Also works nicely with weed butter.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:04 |

Whipped cream works great too. Especially home made whipped cream.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:04 |

Sounds revolting.
I’ll give this a shot tomorrow

I must introduce you to the siphon coffee maker, then...

Yeah, I read that I should used an immersion blender. I don't have one on account of being poor, so I considered using a normal blender, but opted to stir it vigorously with the butter knife.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:08 |

It does. My fav though is a good cappuccino with a thick head of frothed milk.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:08 |

I get it, the oil brings out the flavor of the coffee. Coconut oil however is fucking revolting.

Health food fads are dumb. I did it because it tastes good.

Interesting. I’m thinking about getting a small machine for my office.

Nah, the internship was with a division of LG, not a thermocouple manufacturer. The polos looked sweet and everyone else had one except me. Still kind of rattled over that.
The ice cream for bitterness, though. Interesting concept.

If you put coconut oil in with your kale as you cook it, it makes it a lot easier to scrape it into the garbage.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:14 |

Yeah I was using a normal hand whisk and running it back and forth between my two hands like trying to start a fire with a stick. Worked well.
Anybody who says oil and water don’t mix has never used good ol’ brute force.

Did this make your coffee buttery smooth?

Vet goes out to the dairy farm to inoculate the cows, meets the farmer coming in with a pail of milk. Dog is trotting next to him.
While the farmer is talking to the vet, the dog lifts its leg over the bucket.
Vet: your dog just pissed i n the milk!
Farmer: Darn it, now I’ll have to strain it again.

Who ever tried Kale for the fist time and decided it was food should be shot. If they are currently dead, they should be exhumed and shot.

Yeah, plus a little smoky with a touch o f greasiness.

Sounds like my Subaru in the morning.

You can make oil and water mix with ease if you add a few drops of dish soap. Don’t recommend that for butter coffee, tho ugh.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:19 |

there’s a lot less bitterness and acidity in the coffee I make fro the siphon, vs a drip or a pour over. I only get less acid when I cold brew, truthfully. That said, I like to make cold brew, and mix the concentrate 1:2 coffee:hot water to make a good cuppa.

My mom used to fry it in bacon grease and salt it t o make kale chips. Health food!

Any dairy will do, including skim milk.

What kind of butter did you use?
I did this for awhile, on the advice that it provides enough calories to get you thru lunch without eating. I think it worked, but then I’d start grazing out of habit anyway, and the Kerrygold butter they recommend isn’t cheap.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:23 |

Huh. Honestly, I enjoy the bitterness. It's part of the flavor. Anymore, I hardly realize it's there. The lack of bitterness was a pleasant surprise this time.

Uhhh.... store brand Kroger butter I’ve ha d in the fridge since August. I don’t use a lot of butter.

I think I had a carob chip cookie once. So much healthiness.

Bcause it's not food, it's a garnish.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:32 |

I mean, sometimes I’ll drink it black. It’s not a deal breaker or anything. I just enjoy the other tastes hidden under the bitter better.

Didn’t it make your coffee greasy?

I’ve been doing the Keto diet for 3 months, never was a coffee drinker, but I read that this makes Keto easier. I am now a coffee drinker. Butter and heavy cream makes for a very tasty coffee.

Used the heater in my Golf last night and it smelled like 10w30. Weird.

A little, but in a good way
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:50 |

I....don’t know about that.
I’ll be sticking to cream.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:50 |

I’ve heard of this before... but I was never sure how much to start with. How much butter did you put in it?
![]() 11/09/2018 at 12:57 |

I did about a toast worth per mug. Didn't really measure, just a decent sized pat I guess?

Everything once.

Try condensed milk and cardamom
![]() 11/09/2018 at 13:04 |

LOL! I’m not judging. I will say that Kerrygold does taste better in coffee, but I don’t know that it im parts any specific benefits otherwise.
M y reason for doing it was more based in science. I also just enjoy butter coffee, as a result.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 13:15 |

Try a pinch of salt next time . It’s p robably healthier than butter and also knocks down the bitterness.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 14:55 |

Completely agree, a good cappuccino is the best coffee
.
Coincidently, my sister in law’s coffee shop
makes the best cappucinno in town. I might be slightly biased, but I test
out that theory
anytime we go somewhere else for coffee.

My wife got me a cheap Nespresso machine last Christmas. It’s been surprisingly good. Not always as big of a head as I’d like, but very easy and accessible. Otherwise, I would only get one as a treat when I go out. Must be cool having a shop in the family.
![]() 11/09/2018 at 16:10 |

It’s definitely cool having a coffee shop in the family, it’s just annoying that it’s across town in an area with only street parking. My wife goes there at least couple times a week, but I’m lucky to go once a month.
I’ll have to remember a Nespresso when she closes down (she’s planning on quitting in a few years). We have a cheapo espresso machine, but it doesn’t give good results.

Next step: peanut butter
Disclaimer: I don't drink coffee
![]() 11/09/2018 at 16:37 |

You know, I thought about that. My friends and I over the summer found a bottle of peanut butter flavored vodka, which we were going to mix with hot chocolate, but we had none so we mixed with coffee. It was alright.

You just have to move.
I have this that I reviewed a while back. It’s still going strong, and I recommend it. Weird though, I checked on Amazon just now, and it’s on there ridiculously expensive. Must be a glitch.

Is it any different than just putting in some cream and a pinch of salt?
![]() 11/10/2018 at 02:30 |

Or maybe Nutella

Ooh... That would be nice.
